Choosing A Bowel Cleansing And Detox Program
There are three basic types of Bowel Cleansing. I have tried all three kinds and each of them has certain benefits and drawbacks. I'll do my best to fill you in on the pro's and con's.
Bowel Cleansing Shakes
Shakes are prepared by mixing (usually) apple juice and the jellied form of …….. that acts like a sort of intestinal abrasive to scrub out your intestines and bowels. The protocol for this cleansing calls for a complete restriction of diet for several days. Then you have to drink the shakes all day long every 3 hours. You cannot mix food with the shakes or it just won't really work.
This strict protocol is extreme to say the least. It takes a week's time and I found that it was not possible to actually go to work and follow this cleansing method. If you have no problem with taking the time and devoting at least a week to this then I would say you might want to try it. However, the process calls for self administered enemas as well. If you can handle that, the only other hurdle is that the severity of the cleanse may make you feel like you've gotten a flu. The fast elimination of toxic material from your body can overtax your liver and make you feel horrible.
Herbal and Fiber Bowel Cleansing Pills
The herbal method is a more gentle, but much slower cleanse. They usually call for a morning & evening dosage with a few pills and a glass of water. You don't need to change your diet much, but the effect will be better with a high fiber / low high density carb diet. The herbs include some laxatives and the other pills are for fiber that acts like an intestinal broom to sweep out your intestines and bowels. Some of the herbs are designed to help detoxify your body. This system will give you a slower cleansing over a longer period of time. It is much easier to maintain a normal lifestyle. You can increase or decrease the speed by the amount of pills you take and what type of diet you eat.
I cannot verify that the cleanse will be as thorough in the bowels, however it is my belief from what I have studied that when you give the body a fighting chance it will work towards health. Remember, bowel cleansing is only the first step to maximum health. Diet plays a very important part and ultimately you are what you eat. Please read up on diet and maximum health in the diet section on the left.
Oxygenating Magnesium Powder or Pills
Oxygen type bowel cleansing is very interesting. The protocol is easy. You take a few pills before bed with water. That's it. You will have serious bowel movement in the morning, possibly a few times. You may want to start this on the weekend so you can stay near a toilet. The type I took called for an increased dosage each night until there is no more liquidy stool happening and then continue for a total of 7 nights. This is a different type of cleanse because it claims to break up hardened waste in your intestines and bowels. It is more intense than the herbal, but not as intense as the shakes. You should alter your diet the same as with the herbal cleanse. This worked great for me and I felt like I was getting a very good cleanse and detox.
A note on fiber and intestinal brooms: In order to keep your bowels clean, you need to have plenty of fiber. I use ground flax seed every day. It doesn't make a lot of sense to pay for food that clogs you up then to pay for cleansing agents that clean you out.
